To help blindfolds.org.uk customers we are building up a repertoire of blindfolded team building games and exercises. If you have a blindfold exercise, game or challenge that you would like to share with us we would love to hear from you.
Please use these blindfold games sensibly and remember unless properly supervised blindfolded games can be dangerous. After all the participants cant see! It is important for blindfolded particpants to be sensible and also to adopt the bumper position if they are moving around whilst wearing a blindfold. This position will involve having the hands out slightly in front of them to make the particpants aware of anybody or anything that they could walk into.
The blindfold maze is a great game and all you need is some chalk and a few blindfolds. You just need to mark out a grid with the chalk something like 4 x 10 with enough room to stand in each square. With a piece of paer and a pen mark out a safe route through the maze so that you have a map to refer to. People can take it in turns to see if they can find the safe way thriough the maze and then when they have they need to pop on a bliundfold to see if they can make it through. They may need some help from their colleagues or team mates for this to successfully to happen
A super old classic, one which the Spanish love. This blindfold game is one that will go on forever. YOu just need to hang up a Pnata (paper mache animal )that is full of sweets and people take it in turns to try to bash it with a stick. Hopefuly your blindfold will not hang you back too much and you will break the animal to release the sweets
A great game using blindfolds. All members of the group are blindfolded except the leader. The leader will then choose someone to be the assasin or the hitman! This person then has to tap people on the shoulder to elimiante them from the game. Once people have had their shoulder tapped or touched they must remove their blindfold and wath the rest of the game take place. This is a real classic game using blindfolds that will be played for many years to come.
The group need to sit around in a circle. One of the group wears a blindfold and walks around the circle. When they decide they sit doen on one of the groups lap, lightly! The person who has bit sat on says squeak piglet speak. They do this in a disguised voice as the blindfolded team member has to try and identify them from their voice. If they guess right the blindfold is given to the person who was caught out and they become the pig. This blindfolded game is best done with a group that have at least spent some previous time together.
Get the group to stand around in a circle and give everybody a number. Then choose one particpant to stand in the middle of the circle. This person puts wears a blindfold and has part of a newspaper rolled up. Not too much newspaper is required as it should be reasonably soft. The idea is that the blindfold wearer then calls out two numbers and those people have to change places by travelling in the circle. The blindfolded policeman then trys to gently swat the movers with his newspaper truncheon. Once someone has been swatted that person assumes the blindfolded role in the middle
This makes an interesting twist to a game of skittles or bowls. Play the game just like you would if you were not wearing a blindfold. If you want to add a twist to the game you could spin the player around before there go. A foam ball would be suggested for this version of blindfold skittles!
One member of the group sits in the middle of a large circle made up of the other members of the team. The particpant that sits in the middle wears a blindfold and lots of balls are placed around them. The other mebers of the group take it in turns to try and snak up, take a ball and then return to their place. If they are caught by being touched by the blindfolded person, they return empty handed. When the balls are all collected the person with the least balls assumes the position of the blindfold wearer.
The group stand in a circle with one member of the group in the middle. The team member in the middle puts on a blindfold and the instructor then passes a bell to one member of the group. The idea of the exercise is for the group to pass the bell, or other noisy object, around the circle. If the person in the middle hears the object they point to where they think it comes from and says "you" If they are right the noisy person becomes the new blindfolded candidate.
The group work in pairs and take it in turns to be blindfolded. The blindfolded partner sits on a chair in an open space or cleared room. The parter who is wearing the blindfold then stands up takes 7 steps forward, then turns right followed by another 7 steps, right again 7 steps and then right again followed by the last 7 steps. They should then in theory be back at the chair and be able to carefully sit down. The partner who gets back to the chair with the least additional steps wins. The partner who is not wearing a blindfold can help to keep their partner safe.
Everybody need to get themselves a partner and each pair needs one blindfold. Each pair has to then decide which animal they are going to be. When they have decided which animal, one of the pair goes to the other side of the room and puts on the blindfold. The remaining people then start to make the animal noise that was chosen, and then the blindfolded participants need to try to reunite themselves with their partner by following the sounds. If you have the time as the facilitator you could have cards with animals on to distribute to your challengees. This will prevent any duplication of animals
Using a piece of rope tied into a loop particpants are asked when wearing their blindfolds to make a shape that is called out by the facilitator. Participants should be told to keep one hand on the rope at all times. When the group think that the shape is as perfect as it can be the rope should be placed on the floor and then blindfolds can be removed to see how well they have done.
Particpants are asked whilst blindfolded to get themselves in a line that is in birthday order, starting with the youngest and finishing with the oldest.
The group are asked to put on their blindfolds and then the participants are asked to get themselves into order of height. This group exercise can be extended by telling the group that they are not allowed to speak.
All group members need to get themselves in a line, one behind each other. The group are asked to put on the blindfolds and then the group is led to the beginning of a rope which is given to the first person in the line. This rope will be the beginning of a sensory trail that needs to be followed to the end. All sorts of obastcles can be put alond the way.
All group members are given a blindfold to wear, whilst one of the group describes an object that they have chosen from a box supplied by the facilitator. It is the job of the blindfolded particpants to work out what is being described. This works well in teams to get a competitive element to the exercise.
One person is blindfolded in the middle of the room and everybody else stands around that person. The middle person then puts on their blindfold and is spun gently around a few times. The idea is for the person wearing the blindfold to then find the other people. You could extend this activity by saying that the blindman has to identify who is who.
All participants put on their blindfolds and then they are asked to organise themselves into a line that has their names in alphabetical order.
A pen needs to be marked out using cones or a rope. The group decide who is going to be blindfolded sheep and who is going to be the shepherd. The group then need to decide on a code or system how the farmer can round up the blindfold wearing sheep into the pen without using any words. They can use other sounds, whistles claps etc. when they have decided the sheep put on their blindfolds and the facilitator can move them into place to start.
A large picture of a donkey, or any other animal with a tail, is needed. The idea is for the group to take it in turns to pin a tail as near to where the tail should go. A tail can be a bit of string and a pin. Before each persons go they must be blindfolded and gently spun around a couple of time.
The group should be divided into pairs. One of the pair puts on a blindfold and the other particpant is given a pictiure. The person who has the picture needs to describe what the other person has to draw so that the pictures are as similar as possible.
The team place a selection of items in a set area and then draw a line with chalk through and around the obstacles. The group members walk, following the line around the course. Once this has been done the team members can take it in turns to try to walk through the course but this time they are blindfolded. By using the blindfolds the group can see who has the best memory and coordination without the sense of sight.
